AZ Red Hats Updates

Dear Red Hat Sisters

I thought summer time was supposed to be the slow time for our red hatters but that just isn't happening from what I'm seeing. I know for a fact that my own chapter has been doing something almost every weekend and it is wearing me out! It is hard work playing and that's the truth! I may have one more email to send out before I leave for the Hawaiian cruise on September 21, 2007...I have 48 red hatters and their hubbies coming along for a fabulous 15-day cruise to all the islands. My last day off work was for the convention this year in January and I've been working two jobs at Mayo (my old one AND my new one since February) and I will be more than ready for this cruise. Next week I travel to Rochester, MN for a meeting prior to go-live weekend during Labor Day for a project that I've been working on for 2.5 years and it'll be so great to see all the hard word finally pay off. I just know that when I get on that ship, I'm going to try to leave my job behind me and perhaps go snorkeling or parasailing which are high on my list of things to do....if you can call that relaxing! ha ha ha

My chapter recently had a lovely luncheon at the Quilted Bear Restaurant in Scottsdale and they were very accommodating and the food was wonderful. Next time you want to try something different, remember this place and there is so much shopping close by.

2007 - AZ Red Hat Convention - March Madness at the Marriott

Well ladies.....the reservations are coming in steadily and I cannot thank you enough! This means to me that those that attended last year want an even better seat this year and by golly, you are gonna get it! Please don't forget to click on the link below to get all the details and remember.....one form with the total number of ladies attending along with your check and stamped, self-addressed envelope is all that you need to send in. About three weeks prior to the convention, your tickets will be sent to you in your envelope so if you move in between times, please let me know! http://www.azredhats.com/az2007convention.htm

There will also be a fun gathering event of red hatters the evening before the convention (Saturday night) as I've reserved the entire theatre for a fun time at Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre where every seat is wonderful! See the details below - there is a slight possibility that one of our very own red hatters could be in the play!! http://www.azredhats.com/az2007convention-todo.htm

When I think of March Madness it makes me think of the "Mad Hatter's Tea Party" and what fun, crazy and wildly wonderful hats and outfits were worn at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party and I am certain that many of our ladies will, undoubtedly come up with also some very wildly wonderful, fun and crazy outfits to wear to our March Maness at the Marriott - so put your creative minds to work!

Dear Red Hat Sisters

It’s here…finally!!! No, no, no, not the hot weather…we already know that! The convention information and details are now on the state’s website and registrations are now open. Just click on the link below and all the information is listed on the left-hand side of the page. Please share this with all chapter members and designate one person to be in charge of sending in your reservations. I’m really excited about the upcoming convention as we are making it an even more memorable day than last year if that is possible!! We’ve made a few little changes as far as your registrations go and you can read all about it by going to www.azredhats.com.

If you are considering spending a night or two at the hotels listed, please do call and reserve a room soon as I’ve only booked a few rooms and you can always cancel 24 hours prior to arrival and not be charged. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Also…if you are coming in early, I’ve arranged to have the entire theatre for us Red Hatters at the Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre to see, “A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum.” I was just there Friday evening and every seat is wonderful! I will also be adding more ideas of fun things to do around AZ so keep watching that page for more ideas.

As you can see from the schedule below, we’ve been working very hard to give you all the opportunity to play as well as travel with your friends. There isn’t anything that does my heart any better than to see ladies together laughing and having a great time. As I’ve always told my kids….hey, I’m going to do everything I want to now because there are no guarantees.

It takes a lot of time to plan events and trips and many wonder why so far in advance am I sending out these notices. Well, it is because you can’t wait until the last minute to book as either A) the event will be sold out or B) we have to have a certain number to make it happen and with your reservations for trips, we will know if it will be possible to make it happen and so far, we’ve not had to cancel a single one because of your participation and enjoyment you receive from the service provided. Please keep in mind, that on most all cruises, you will receive a full refund if cancelled within a certain number of days beforehand.

September 2006 – Hawaiian Cruise – I’m so excited, we have 48 booked to go on the cruise and we are going to have a ball. There will be daily “red hat” fun treats planned while onboard. If you missed out, you could call right away to see if you still can go with us.
Call Promenade at Main Office 623-977-8800 or 1-888-AWAY I GO.

October 14, 2006 – Prescott Fall Fest Arts & Crafts Show Plus Young’s Farm Pumpkin Festival - Get your group of ladies together and come join me on the motor coach for a day of fun in Prescott. I bet the leaves will be turning by then, it’ll be cool and I’ll feel like baking pumpkin pies. This should be a fun time to renew old acquaintances. We’ll even be stopping by Buckey’s Casino. Dear Red Hat Sisters

Seems like everyone is trying their best to beat the heat and for those of you lucky enough to head to cooler temperatures, do have a safe trip. For those of us riding out the heat, don’t forget there are other ways to keep cool. Sunday’s newspaper listed all the local resorts that were running specials to attract the locals and keep business going. I know a few years ago, some girlfriends and I rented a suite and were treated like royalty. They gave us a room as far away from the main lobby and we had our own pool and we still have great memories of that weekend.

Also, don’t forget the movies…..it is cool, especially if you throw in lunch with it. Have you ever been to Farrelli’s Cinema Supper Club on Scottsdale Road just north of Thunderbird. You can have lunch while you watch a movie. I’ve been there twice and highly recommend it. Lots of fun. www.farrellis.com

AZ’s 6th RED HAT STATE CONVENTION – APRIL 7, 2007
Mark your calendars ladies and let everyone know as once the details go on-line, reservations will go fast as we expect another sellout this year. Dr. Maxine will be back by popular demand! She will also be entertaining at the RH National convention in St. Louis this year and you will be able to spend the day with her in Phoenix and she has a new routine which I hear is hysterical. Can’t imagine her being better than she gave us this year!

In the next few weeks, I will be posting all the details on our state’s website www.azredhats.com and there you will be able to print the registration form to complete to send in your registrations. It will once again be just one day and we will be returning to the beautiful JW Marriott at the Desert Ridge in north Phoenix. We are not ready to begin taking reservations but please let your ladies know the date. It is my hope to keep the cost the same ($65) for the day-long event and I’m working with the Marriott to make that happen…..so stay tuned for more!

The winery is nestled in the mesquite and juniper-clad volcanic landscape just south of Sedona. The tasting room is situated in the loft over the winery cellar that overlooks the vineyard. You'll be able to sip wine crushed, barrel-aged, and bottled in the cellar directly below you and take home your very own Page Springs Cellars glass! Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre
Dr. Sue is Ruthless! (No kidding.)
In this killer musical comedy? She’s a razor-tongued, dragon lady of a theatre critic who hates musicals…she’s… well, she’s Sue Sisley playing the part of Lita Encore in Scottsdale Desert Stages Actor’s Café’s current hit Ruthless! The Musical! Typecasting? You decide! Dr. Sue has just joined the cast of this murderous musical about an actress that would kill for the lead role in her school play. Not that Dr. Sue would ever be accused of doing whatever it takes to get what she wants, but we think she’s a natural for this show!

Dr. Sue may enjoy the backbiting and backstabbing a little too much and may never leave the stage again…Come see her, while the show’s still going on. Ruthless! The Musical! will be on stage through June 24th in the Actor’s Café—the small, intimate stage located within Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre. Performances are 7:30pm Fridays and Saturdays and tickets are $22 in advance ($20 if you’re a senior or student). There’s also a $15 student rush for this show.
For reservations, call 480-483-1664.
