AZ Red Hats Updates

Dear Red Hat Sisters

Happy New Year! Where did 2005 go? I just don’t know! But I’m ready and anxious for 2006 that is for sure! As I reflect on the events of last year, we have so much to be thankful for considering all the devastation that has happened throughout the world. I know it has affected so many people’s lives. Our RHS chapters and its members continue to amaze me with their generous giving of monies, time and support to those in need. You all are truly amazing women and I tip my RED hat to you.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 28, 2006 – 5 YEARS!!!

This update will be short and sweet, as I must stay focused on Arizona’s 5th state convention that is just a few days away, Saturday, January 28, 2006! The excitement is already starting to build and I know I can hardly contain myself because it just thrills me no end to see all the smiling faces, hear the giggling and watch the fun being had on that day. One thing that I especially enjoy is to be dressed incognito and mingle with the crowds in the vendor pavilion and hear the ooh’s and aah’s when someone finds a “WOW” that they just can’t live without OR to hear someone leaving the grand ballroom and telling their friends what fun they’ve had. We still have great seats available!

Below are some key points to remember:

  • One designee should be assigned to pick up your nametags at the Registration Table.

  • All nametags will be inside one envelope with your Queen Mother’s name on it. Please know who she is and decide on a meeting place to find all your chapter members. It is always a good idea to make a sign, banner, balloons, etc. to locate each other – get creative!

  • Registration Table opens at 9 AM.

  • Everyone will be assigned to a reserved table. Each table sits 10 ladies. If you sent in reservations for 12 ladies, chances are your chapter will be split 6 to each table. Please be kind to your neighbor. There are so many more “important” things in this world to be concerned about.

  • Vendor pavilion will be open at 8 AM for early bird specials.

  • Grand Ballroom will open at 11 a.m.

  • Welcome begins at 11:30 a.m.

  • Main entertainment begins at approximately 1 p.m.

  • Drawings/raffles will be at the end of the program and dismissal will be approximately 3:30.

  • In the AM, it’ll be chilly, please dress accordingly and bring a shawl or wrap, as it is difficult to regulate the temperature to please 2,000 women in the grand ballroom!

  • Jody Houghton of Jody Houghton, Inc. will also be a featured speaker. Many of you know of her and her fabulous designs, Faith, Hope and Charity. http://www.jodyhoughton.com/index.html

  • Valet parking is $6 per car. The Grand Ballroom is located at the north end of the property and there is always plenty of parking if you come early.

  • Please make sure you are always wearing your name tag when you leave to use the restroom as that will be your only way of gaining entry into the convention.

  • There will be no table ”stealing” or commandeering another table or you will be escorted from the premises. Please sit at the table you are assigned to.

  • There will be no food served prior to 11:30 a.m. Please eat breakfast before coming.

  • There is still time to make arrangements for travel to/from the convention through Promenade Travel. Call for reservations: 1-866-9 Red Hat or 623-974-8668

Due to the increased cost of fuel, labor, etc. the name badges and button prices have increased and the ovals cost more to make than the rectangles so please be sure to print off the new price list by clicking on the link below.  http://www.azredhats.com/deals1.htm

January 7, 2005 – Red Hatter Memorial Luncheon

Ladies, the memories of loosing one of our members never seems to go away especially when it happens so suddenly and so tragically.  It’s been nearly a year since a very active and vibrant red hatter left us and her loving husband had gathered all her many, many red hats, purple clothes, accessories and even a one-of-a kind painted antique milk can which was written about in a previous newsletter, to give to Sunshine Acres Children’s Home (one of Sue’s favorite charities) to auction off on her behalf.

This will be a wonderful luncheon and heartfelt day for all those that new her and Norman Watson would like to invite any and all of you to come together in friendship to honor Sue.  You also can donate items that you do not wear any more or are too large or don’t fit any more if you like.  You can contact Norman directly at 602-277-4516 to make those arrangements.  I hope to see you all there for a day of friendship and remembrance.

One Year Memorial Luncheon

One short year ago we were saddened to loose our red-hat sister and 2004 Calendar Girl, Sue Watson to a tragic auto accident.  Her husband, Norm, has donated all her demure to far-out Red Hats, outfits, jewelry and accessories to the Sunshine Acres Boutique.  They are reserving everything exclusively for YOUR shopping visit AFTER your tour and luncheon.

Luncheon highlights will include a silent auction of Norm’s Red Hatter milk can creation as well as a “Strictly Sue designed” new hat creation donated by Louis Hons from the Palm Springs Hat Company.  (She had to be one of his better customers!)

Sue was involved for 30+ years with Sunshine Acres.  We can help perpetuate her efforts by participating in this event.  Their Boutique is always a classy adventure every visit!  Who can pass up an opportunity for fun, shopping and for a deserving cause!  This will be a great chapter event and will sell out fast!

Dear Red Hat Sisters

There is so much going on I hardly know where to begin!

Well, you all know I’ve moved into a new home so please do NOT send your convention reservations to the OLD address. New address is 1717 E. Cielo Grand Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85024. It has been quite an experience to say the least. My kids, as I told you before, made me sign a notarized document that I’d NEVER move again! It was quite scary for the first few days until I figured out which light switches turned what on and off! Now a new experience for me is the HOA (Home Owners Assn) I bet you all know what I’m talking about, right? Two weeks AFTER I had my front lawn landscaped I received a letter stating I was in “violation” and to remove my weeds! Good Lord, what weeds! That poor little yard hasn’t had time to vegetate any weeds I thought so I called the HOA and expressed my concerns and asked if by chance they knew the difference between weeds and plants. Well, wouldn’t you know it, the gal said she was new from Atlanta and was not used to the Arizona’s native plants and profusely apologized! Ha! I wonder how long I can get away with not pulling my weeds when they really do start to grow! Ha Ha

ON-GOING TRAVEL OPPORTUNITIES

Ladies, I know how many of your love to travel and I also know how many of you want so badly to come to some of the state events for red hatters but truly hate to drive. We’ve arranged for Promenade Travel to pick you up and bring you to these events without your worrying. We just need to ensure we have at least 40 on a bus and that isn’t hard to do if a few chapters in your area get together and plan to come. There are so many wonderful upcoming events that we want to make it a wonderful experience for everyone. Call Promenade at 1-866-9 Red Hat or 623-974-8668 if you have questions or want to plan a trip for your group!
