AZ Red Hats Updates

Dear Red Hat Sisters

Oh, boy….lots and lots to tell you all and I just don’t know quite where to begin.  I’m all moved in and trying to get settled but it is hard.  Found my last box of underwear out on the back patio so I’m really glad that I’m not doing laundry every other day now!  Please note my new address:  Attention:  Effective September 8, 2005 , my new address will be 1717 E. Red Hat Times Newsletter

Arizona’s September issue of the newsletter was a wee bit late in getting out to all of you and I do apologize. It seems like my recent move and working full-time at Mayo Clinic put me behind schedule and I’m sorry and hope you received yours in the mail this week.  Please note the flyer from Jody Houghton has a “free” gift for you if you go to her website at www.sisterhoodofpurple.com and make reference to code: “001” and you will receive a free gift with your order.  Jody has such wonderful red hat items and I’m so happy to announce she will be coming to our AZ Convention in January!!!  Yippeeee!

2006 Timeless Treasures

Yesterday we just had our “wrap-up” party for the 2006 calendar girls and the new 2006 calendars will be available by October 15 barring any printer meltdowns at the printers.  They will remain $12 each and add $3 s/h if we need to mail them to you.  They make wonderful holiday gifts to friends and family members who might enjoy seeing a bunch of wonderful ladies, having fun and supporting a worthwhile cause here in Arizona.

AZ State RH Convention – January 28, 2006

Please go to the AZ Red Hat’s website at www.azredhats.com to print the registration form.  Also…please know that if you are planning on spending the night before or after the convention, please make your reservations NOW .  The reason being is that about 45 days out, the hotels will return any rooms that I have being held under the RED HAT name back into inventory and you will pay a higher price.  I just listed the JW Marriott’s room rate as well on our website.  See list below.

There are at least 40 red hatters signed up already for our cruise to Hawaii next year and I can hardly wait to put my purple grass skirt on cause I’m gonna have fun!!!
http://www.ptaz.com/red%20hat%20travel.net/Red%20Hat%20Cruise%20list.htm

http://www.ptaz.com/Red%20Hat%20Exclusive%20Trips.htm

There are also several day trips that have been planned for a fun adventure and all it takes is at least 10 people at a location to be picked up!  But remember, we will need to make sure there are at least 40 reservations on a bus to confirm it is a go!  Therefore, if there are 12 ladies in AJ, 10 in Mesa,15 in Tempe, and 10 in Phoenix, the bus will start picking up at a pick-up point in AJ, continue to Mesa, then on to Tempe and finally to Phoenix to pick up the last group and then away you go to your next red hat “Adventure in Fun!”  So please share with your chapter members, what all motorcoach day trips we have planned for you to have fun on!  If none of these interest you, please e-mail me some ideas that you’d like to have planned for you.  I bet you there are other chapters who would love to join in with you for a day of fun!

January 7, 2005 – Red Hatter Memorial Luncheon

Ladies, the memories of loosing one of our members never seems to go away especially when it happens so suddenly and so tragically.  It’s been nearly a year since a very active and vibrant red hatter left us and her loving husband had gathered all her many, many red hats, purple clothes, accessories and even a one-of-a kind painted antique milk can which was written about in a previous newsletter, to give to Sunshine Acres Children’s Home (one of Sue’s favorite charities) to auction off on her behalf.

This will be a wonderful luncheon and heartfelt day for all those that new her and Norman Watson would like to invite any and all of you to come together in friendship to honor Sue.  You also can donate items that you do not wear any more or are too large or don’t fit any more if you like.  You can contact Norman directly at 602-277-4516 to make those arrangements.  I hope to see you all there for a day of friendship and remembrance.

One Year Memorial Luncheon

One short year ago we were saddened to loose our red-hat sister and 2004 Calendar Girl, Sue Watson to a tragic auto accident.  Her husband, Norm, has donated all her demure to far-out Red Hats, outfits, jewelry and accessories to the Sunshine Acres Boutique.  They are reserving everything exclusively for YOUR shopping visit AFTER your tour and luncheon.

Luncheon highlights will include a silent auction of Norm’s Red Hatter milk can creation as well as a “Strictly Sue designed” new hat creation donated by Louis Hons from the Palm Springs Hat Company.  (She had to be one of his better customers!)

Sue was involved for 30+ years with Sunshine Acres.  We can help perpetuate her efforts by participating in this event.  Their Boutique is always a classy adventure every visit!  Who can pass up an opportunity for fun, shopping and for a deserving cause!  This will be a great chapter event and will sell out fast!

Paint –n- Go Ceramics

Ladies, you don’t have to be a Michael Angelo to be a great painter.  This little shop in Mesa at 5253 E. Brown Road will put together a party package just for you!  Can’t you imagine seeing people walking by on the street and looking in the window and seeing 15 red hatters in there painting up a storm and possibly painting each other!  I think it would be a hoot to do… call them at 480-654-2757 to book a time for your group – they are even open on Sundays.

NOTE:  Ladies, the two events below require a lot of time to plan and pull together in order for you all to have an enjoyable day.  We have 350 seats reserved for CROWNS that will be a fabulous show for us red hatters since it is about women and their hats.  But if you do not get your reservations in soon, we will have to return the seats we have being held for us.  If you “think” your chapter will want to attend, please call 623-974-8668 or 1-866-9 red hat and let them know you will be coming and you can collect the money from your ladies later.  They just need to know that yes, you do want to see it so they will keep the seats and not give them back.

The same goes for Derby Day --- you can collect your money later but let Promenade Travel know that you will be coming.  There are two prices and they are taking reservations for both: 1) without motorcoach transportation and 2) with transportation – bringing  you to the valley for a day of fun!

Dear Red Hat Sisters

Wine Tasting tour invitation from DD’s

My dear Sisterhood of Purple….when will summer be over?  I’ve had enough….oh, I envy you ladies who head for the high country during this time of year.  I do have a daughter who lives in Flagstaff that I can escape to but there hasn’t been any time for me to be escaping!  Many of you know that I am packing boxes and have been working on preparing my home for sale.  Don’t get too excited --- I’m not moving far--- just four miles down the road and a wee bit closer to my job at Mayo Clinic Hospital but I’m reflecting on the decision I made last fall to move and think I must have had a moment of insanity descend upon me and never considered all the work it would take to pack my home, prepare it to be shown, and dealing with keeping it spotless for potential buyers.  Thank goodness it sold in less than a day---now I can go back to being Ms. Piggy!!!  Ha ha ha

AZ 2006 Red Hat Convention – January 28, 2006 - For those of you who are worrying about where to send your reservations for the upcoming convention in January, not to worry, my post office will forward all mail and I will send out my new address to you all once I get notice when exactly my move in date will be.  Speaking of convention----today was a record breaker.  I received 95 reservations in one day!!!  Yahoo!!   We are nearing the halfway mark to being sold out so don’t wait too much longer, ladies, to send in your reservations.  Remember --- your cancelled check in your bank statement is confirmation that I’ve received your reservations.  Please do NOT send your reservations as “registered” mail as that will only delay your seating assignments as my post office is quite far away and I cannot readily get to it.

I have at least three hotels that are giving us a “red hat” rate for the time period of January 26-28, 2006 and those will soon be posted on the website www.azredhats.com but until I get “all” the details, I won’t post it.  If you want a special motorcoach to bring you to the valley and leave the driving up to someone else, call Red Hat Travel at 1-866-9 Red Hat to book your reservation.  Remember, it only takes 40 ladies to bring a bus in from most anywhere in the state.  www.azredhats.com/az2006convention.htm

She’s been evicted from her home; married to a murderer, driven to drink by orphans, marooned on a deserted island—and along the way she ran a house of prostitution. Now Dr. Sue Sisley—our favorite Pink Hat actress--has a new role…she making her directorial debut with “The King and I” at Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre.  This captivating Rogers and Hammerstein musical about a stubborn king and a determined English governess is on stage October 7 to November 6, 2005 .  Dr. Sue wants plenty of support in the audience, so for the first time, Desert Stages is offering 2 pm Sunday matinees for this show, in addition to performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 6pm . Make sure to make your reservations now to come see this musical that promises to be “Something Wonderful”! Ticket prices are $22 ($20 for seniors) in advance, but for Red Hat groups of 15 or more, tickets are $19 per person.  Just call Darlene in Group Sales at the Theatre Box Office:  480-483-1664 , press 7.

“The King and I” opens Desert Stages 05-06 Mainstage season that also includes: Damn Yankees (Jan 13-Feb 5, 2006); Jesus Christ Superstar (Mar 31-Apr 30, 2006) and West Side Story (Jun 30-July 30, 2006).  For the best deal on tickets, you may want to become a season subscriber.  For only $72, subscribers receive tickets to all four shows, plus a free ticket to a show in this theatre’s smaller venue, the Actor’s Café.  Actor’s Café shows include the thriller Sleuth (now on stage) followed by the Irish musical A Man of No Importance, opening September 9th. Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre is located at 4720 N. Scottsdale Road , Scottsdale 85251 .  Theatre Box Office: 480-483-1664 .

Dear Red Hat Sisters
