AZ Red Hats Updates

Dear Red Hat Sisters

Where on earth has the time gone???!!!  I can’t believe Mother’s Day and Memorial Day is behind us and Father’s Day and July 4th is right around the corner!  It seems like I close my eyes and when I open them, another week has passed by!  Is that a sign of old age??  Oh, dear, if it is, I gotta start living life faster to stay ahead of the game!!! J

As we begin our long, hot summer, many of our Red Hat sisters have gone to cooler climates~~lucky ducks!!  Speaking of ducks, my chapter rode the Yellow Duck Ride at Lake Pleasant recently and had a ball.  It’s something your chapter may want to consider.  http://www.arizonaducks.com

Don’t forget to visit our red hat sisters in Prescott and a trip to Jerome would be a cool outing for the red hatters.  You may even run into a ghost or two while visiting Jerome; I hear they roam around frequently!

I will be working with Phoenix Symphony for their new schedule for some RED HAT deals as well as lunch at Sam’s Café at the Arizona Center.  Many of the Valley theatres and businesses contact me to give our red hatters discounts and I love passing on the great savings.  I do, however, have become selective as the deals have to be something we all enjoy; therefore, when the Skateboarding Association contacted me to do a deal with us, I graciously turned them down.  Now I know a lot of you may be disappointed but the hospitals might become overcrowded with broken hips!!!

Speaking of hospitals, most of you know I work for Mayo Clinic Hospital and I try to keep a balance between red hatting and my work.  I receive many, many requests to promote other red hat events and to send out notices of changes, etc. and I will not be able to continue sending out notices for your doings as I just don’t have the time or help to do so.  I hope you understand and appreciate your understanding.

Travel – I know so many of you enjoy traveling and that is why I have put together a number of trips in the past and will continue to do so.  I’ve just taken a few weeks off from traveling and needed some time to think what my future plans would be for our traveling red hat sisters.  At this time, I wish to announce that I will not be working with Promenade Travel in planning future Red Hat travel experiences.  I’ve had a three-year run with them and appreciate their help in making our trips memorable.  I will now be working exclusively with Terra Travel on future Red Hat travel trips.  They have three offices (Tempe, Mesa and Phoenix and have “800” phone numbers to each office.  http://www.terratravelaz.com.  If you have a special travel trip in mind for your group or simply for yourself, please allow me to help you plan it.  You can call any one of the three offices and mention you are a red hatter or you can call me directly at 480-361-9336 and leave a message.  I will return calls in the evenings and on weekends.  Stay tuned for more information.

Nominated for 11 Tony Awards in the Broadway revival, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” is on stage at Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre July 11 – August 10, 2008. There’s Nothin’ Like a Dame to get the wishful sailors stationed on a South Pacific Isle singin’ and dancin’. Set during World War II, romance blooms in paradise when a feisty Naval nurse named Nellie Forbush falls in love with a French plantation owner with a hidden past and the dashing Marine Lieutenant Joe Cable falls in love with a young native girl. But the dangers of war and prevailing prejudice are storm clouds that threaten a happy ending for these mismatched couples. Adapted from James Michener’s Pulitzer Prize-winning collection of stories, “Tales of the South Pacific,” this musical masterpiece features songs that are as lush and colorful as its tropical setting, including Some Enchanted Evening, I’m in Love With a Wonderful Guy and I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair. Performances are 7:30 pm Fridays and Saturdays; 2pm matinees on Saturdays and Sundays.    Tickets: $20-$25; $15 Student Rush.

Thu - Sep. 4, 2008 - A Chorus Line - $69.00 per/ticket - A CHORUS LINE is a stunning musical-verite about a chorus audition for a Broadway musical. It tells of the achingly poignant ambitions of professional Broadway gypsies to land a job in the show, and is a powerful metaphor for all human aspiration. Memorable musical numbers include I Can Do That, At the Ballet, Dance: Ten; Looks: Three, The Music and the Mirror, What I Did for Love, One (Singular Sensation) and I Hope I Get It. It is a brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compellingly authentic drama. The show was instantly recognized as a classic.   Rows 14-25 off to the side
Thu - Oct. 16, 2008 - The Rat Pack - $63.00 per/ticket - They were arguably the four sexiest men in the world; certainly the most powerful men in the entertainment industry. Their names were Frank, Sammy, Dean and Joey. The Rat Pack is Back! is one imaginary martini-drenched night (December 12, 1961 - Frank's 46th birthday) during which the foursome perform and celebrate on stage in Las Vegas. Their relationship with the blues is as intimate as is their white-hot obsession with jazz. The songs they are singing are theirs; they have made them internationally famous -- "Luck Be a Lady Tonight," "One for the Road," "Lady Is a Tramp," "What Kind of Fool Am I," "Mr. Bo Jangles.”  Rows 14-25 off to the side
Thu – Nov. 20, 2008 - Happy Days - $69.00 per/ticket - Goodbye gray skies, hello blue! Happy Days are here again with Richie, Potsie, Ralph Malph and the unforgettable "king of cool," Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli. Based on the hit Paramount Pictures' television series, Happy Days: The Musical reintroduces one of America's best loved families, the Cunninghams, and the days of 1959 Milwaukee - complete with varsity sweaters, hula hoops, and jukebox sock-hoppin'.  The famed drive-in malt shop and number one hang-out, Arnold's, is in danger of demolition, so the gang teams up to save it with a dance contest and TV-worthy wrestling match against former Phister prison members Count Jacques and Jimbo, a.k.a. the infamous Malachi Brothers. Even the daredevil diva Pinky Tuscadero returns to help and perhaps reunite with her "Legend in Leather."  Rows 14-25 off to the side.
Tue – Jan 13, 2009 – Lion King - $147.00 per/PREMIUM TICKET – One night only - Includes premium seating Rows 3-11 centered seats in Middle Section between aisles, souvenir ticket, program, and a LK merchandise item.

Thu – Jan 15, 2009 (SOLD OUT) - Lion King – NEW DATE – JAN 21, 2009 - $81.50 per/ticket - Based on the Disney cartoon feature, this tailor-made for kids musical continues Simba's adventures as he learns to accept his new role as king of the jungle.  Orchestra seats Rows 3-10 Aisle seats and in 10 seats for great viewing of the animal parade down the aisle!

**IMPORTANT NOTE:  For Lion King, Gammage is divided into 3 main sections for this show, creating 2 main aisles around seats 21 to 25 and seats 20-24.  Our seats have been chosen to get the first 6-10 seats off the aisle for best viewing of the Parade of Animals down those 2 aisles.    The middle section is the VIP section rows 3-11.  You get a souvenir ticket holder, program and LK hat for the price.  We are offering centered and out VIP seating only on Tues. 1/13 in a limited quantity.  To purchase VIP seats choose the Lion King PT show.

Thu – Apr 2, 2009 - Frost/Nixon - $63.00 per/ticket - David Frost's interviews with Richard Nixon, following the Watergate scandal and the President's humiliating resignation, drew the largest audience ever for a news interview. Could this British talk-show host, with no known political convictions and a playboy reputation, be the one to elicit an apology from the man who committed one of the biggest felonies in American political history?  Rows 14-25 off to the side

Thu – Jun 18, 2009 - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - $69.00 per/ticket - The most fantasmagorical stage musical in the history of everything.  A new stage adaptation of the internationally known hit film of Ian Fleming's timeless story, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang features a beloved score, including such memorable classics as "Truly Scrumptious," "Toot Sweets," "Hushabye Mountain," and the Oscar-nominated title song.  Rows 14-25 off to the side

Wicked! The Musical – COMING JULY 2009 – NO PRICES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME - Long before Dorothy dropped in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One - born with emerald green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two unlikely friends end up as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch makes for the most spellbinding new musical in years.  Recommended age for children is 8 and up. No children under 4 admitted.

Dear Red Hat Sisters

I wanted to share an experience I had this weekend w/all my friends in hopes it never happens to you.

Please do NOT store your bottle of bleach or any type of toxic chemical on a shelf or cupboard above your dryer.  Little did I know that my bleach bottle had developed a slow leak and had been dripping down on the electrical cord of my dryer and when it finally ate through the rubber and hit the live/hot wires that go into the plug, it caused a flash fire.  Luckily I was home and the fire department was only minutes away.  Please check where you store your cleaning items.  I never even thought of something like this happening~now I know better.  Go check you laundry room now and have everyone you love do the same.  Thanks for listening.

Ladies ~ I found this wonderful website and you can sign up to get newsletters and wonderful recipes and ideas.  Just click on the link below.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Gilbert Fine Arts Association – April 9 and 11, 2008 – Still time left to enjoy the 80’s!

http://www.azredhats.com/theatregilbert.html

April 25, 2008 marks the Red Hat Society’s 10th birthday.  Many of you who were around when the RHS was born 10 years ago, never dreamed where we were heading. It’s been a phenomenal journey and continues to show younger women everywhere what they have to look forward to.  Life just begins at 50 and only gets better!!!  The new friendships that have been formed have made a difference in so many women’s lives and we now, there was a need for such an organization.  It shows the world we have much to give: wisdom, strength, humor, encouragement, and most of all, friendship.  The world is a better place because of the RHS and its purpose.  Let’s hope the next 10 years will be a phenomenal journey.

Whatever your chapters chooses to do on April 25 to celebrate the Red Hat Society’s birthday, remember to enjoy yourselves and continue to show the world we are not done living and so have much to give.  Happy Birthday!

IT’S SPRING - TIME FOR A WEDDING – AND 5 WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS

Tempe Little Theatre, the community’s only non-profit, all volunteer, production company, will close out its 37th Season with a deliciously dark comedy that takes you into the world of five very different women, all bridesmaids, with performances of 5 Women Wearing the Same Dress, running May 9 through May 18, 2008.

Performance dates for 5 Women Wearing the Same Dress are May 9, 10, 16, 17 at 8 p.m. May 10, 11, 17, 18 at 2 p.m. and May 15 at 7 p.m. All performances are at the new Tempe Center for the Arts, 700 Rio Salado Parkway, at Tempe Town Lake.

During an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee estate, five reluctant, identically-clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason for avoiding the proceedings below.  As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover they all share common bonds -- beyond their bridesmaid dresses.

Dear Red Hat Sisters

This is a new year and reason to celebrate ALL YEAR LONG!!!  Why not, we are 10 years old!!  Yippee!!

Our organization has grown so over the past 10 years.  2008 marks the Red Hat Society’s 10th birthday and that is reason to celebrate in my book!  The National Hatquarters in California said they will be celebrating their 10th birthday all year long and I’m for that!  I love an excuse to party and to do that….we can wear our colors mixed up ALL YEAR LONG!

  • Yes, if you want to wear that purple hat and red dress each and every month, just do it!

  • If you want to wear purple hat and purple dress, just do it!

  • If you want to wear a red hat and a red dress, just do it!

Celebrate!!!  And when someone asks you if it is your birthday because you are wearing a purple hat, you can tell them, “no, but it is the Red Hat Society’s 10th birthday and that is reason to celebrate!”

Let’s Talk Convention – March 1, 2008

  • Do you have your dress ready?

  • Do you know which hat you are going to wear or will you wait and buy a spectacular there?

  • Where is my camera? I want lots of pictures!

  • I need to get lots of sleep because I don’t want to miss a thing!

  • Where did I put my ticket?

  • Why don’t I stay the night before so I’ll be there first thing in the morning?

  • I wonder if it will be hot or cold.

  • Have you made your hotel reservations yet?  Some red hatters will be staying the night before and some the night afterwards and I’ll be there BOTH nights….so it’ll be party central!!!

These and many more questions are being asked about the upcoming AZ Red Hat Convention ~ Happenin’ @ the Hilton on Saturday, March 1, 2008.  It is getting exciting and I’ve heard from our entertainer, Ms. Kacey Jones, from Nashville , twice today and she is so excited to be coming to Arizona to perform for our red hatters.  She will be bringing two of her CD’s with her as well and is planning on giving great discounts to chapter members who wish to purchase them on the spot versus on-line.  Ladies, I tell you, when you hear her songs, you will be singing the lyrics every chance you get….I guarantee you!!!

There are still GREAT seats left and you will not want to miss out on the fun.  As always, I rent two huge overhead screens so everyone will be able to see and hear what is going on.  We will have prize give-aways as well as some show tickets and numerous other items.  Also, you may want to bring a wrap in case it is a little chilly in the grand ballroom.  It is hard to keep the temperature at a degree to please everyone.

For those of you who sent in reservations and a self-addressed, stamped envelope, your tickets will be mailed to you in mid-February timeframe and it will be your responsibility to see the ladies in your group each gets their ticket.  You may want to hand on to all of them until the day of the convention and meet them at a designated spot and hand them to them at that time to ensure no one forgets them at home.  That will cause problems.

If you did not send a stamped, self-addressed envelope, you will be able to pick up your tickets at the WILL CALL table outside the Grand Ballroom beginning at 10 AM.  They will be listed under the person’s name that sent in the reservation.  http://www.azredhats.com/az2008convention.htm

You can still send in your reservations and join in the fun.

January 13, 2008 – PJ Game @ Herberger – 1 PM ~ Wear your jammies if you like!!! – Call Promenade Travel NOW if you want to have fun on a Sunday afternoon and never have to change your clothes after you wake up on Sunday morning!!!  Of course, wearing PJ’s is optional but we are going to have a blast and there will be many “Kodak” moments!!  1-866-9 Red Hat or 623-974-8668

March 8, 2008 – 3rd Annual Derby Day @ Turf Paradise – Get ready to parade your best “derby” and win a prize!  There will be raffles and prizes and of course, a “trifecta” salad for lunch plus more!  All the details are listed below and the price has not changed in the last 3 years; only $25.00 per person for a fabulous lunch, prizes and fun….and oh yes, play your favorite pony and you may walk out with a pocket full of cash!  If your group prefers to be transported, Promenade will pick you up at a designated area near your home if there are at least 10 ladies for that pick-up location.  Please call for more details!  1-866-9 Red Hat or 623-974-8668 http://www.ptaz.com/red%20hat%20travel.net/Derby%20day.htm

March 16, 2008 – Menopause the Musical – The whole theatre has been reserved just for RED HATTERS!!!  Won’t that be fun!  Theatre 4301 is in downtown Scottsdale and every seat is great!  Get together with your chapter on a Sunday afternoon and come to this hilariously funny musical that will get you out of your seats and make you want to dance!!

You will need to make one reservation for your group because you will save money!  There is a $7.50 charge for one reservation; therefore if you have 10 ladies going, you can divide that charge up between you.  Each ticket is $36.00 and a great savings.  Call the toll free # at 888-686-8587, ext. #11 and ask for Jana Goupil.  She is the Group Sales Manager and the one to make your reservations with for this very popular show.  Be sure to wear your red hat regalia!  http://www.azredhats.com/az2008menopause.htm
