AZ Red Hats Updates
Where on earth has the time gone???!!! I can’t believe Mother’s Day and Memorial Day is behind us and Father’s Day and July 4th is right around the corner! It seems like I close my eyes and when I open them, another week has passed by! Is that a sign of old age?? Oh, dear, if it is, I gotta start living life faster to stay ahead of the game!!! J As we begin our long, hot summer, many of our Red Hat sisters have gone to cooler climates~~lucky ducks!! Speaking of ducks, my chapter rode the Yellow Duck Ride at Lake Pleasant recently and had a ball. It’s something your chapter may want to consider. http://www.arizonaducks.com Don’t forget to visit our red hat sisters in Prescott and a trip to Jerome would be a cool outing for the red hatters. You may even run into a ghost or two while visiting Jerome; I hear they roam around frequently! I will be working with Phoenix Symphony for their new schedule for some RED HAT deals as well as lunch at Sam’s Café at the Arizona Center. Many of the Valley theatres and businesses contact me to give our red hatters discounts and I love passing on the great savings. I do, however, have become selective as the deals have to be something we all enjoy; therefore, when the Skateboarding Association contacted me to do a deal with us, I graciously turned them down. Now I know a lot of you may be disappointed but the hospitals might become overcrowded with broken hips!!! Speaking of hospitals, most of you know I work for Mayo Clinic Hospital and I try to keep a balance between red hatting and my work. I receive many, many requests to promote other red hat events and to send out notices of changes, etc. and I will not be able to continue sending out notices for your doings as I just don’t have the time or help to do so. I hope you understand and appreciate your understanding. Travel – I know so many of you enjoy traveling and that is why I have put together a number of trips in the past and will continue to do so. I’ve just taken a few weeks off from traveling and needed some time to think what my future plans would be for our traveling red hat sisters. At this time, I wish to announce that I will not be working with Promenade Travel in planning future Red Hat travel experiences. I’ve had a three-year run with them and appreciate their help in making our trips memorable. I will now be working exclusively with Terra Travel on future Red Hat travel trips. They have three offices (Tempe, Mesa and Phoenix and have “800” phone numbers to each office. http://www.terratravelaz.com. If you have a special travel trip in mind for your group or simply for yourself, please allow me to help you plan it. You can call any one of the three offices and mention you are a red hatter or you can call me directly at 480-361-9336 and leave a message. I will return calls in the evenings and on weekends. Stay tuned for more information. Take Me Out To The Ballgame ~~ July 22, 2008 ~~ (SOLD OUT – ALL 250!!!) She will let you know where the pick up spots are. cr_cards@netzero.com Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre ‘Barefoot in the Park’ - May 2 – July 6, 2008 WHO: Scottsdale Desert Stages Actor’s Café presents “Barefoot in the Park” Explore the thin line between love and hate! “Barefoot in the Park” is on stage in Scottsdale Desert Stages Actor’s Café May 2 through July 6, 2008. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm; 2pm Sundays. After their whirl wind courtship, Paul and Corie begin their new life together in an old sixth floor walk-up apartment, which Corie has picked out and Paul sees for the first time on their return from the honeymoon. She is a free-spirited young wife and he is a serious young lawyer. Add her somewhat prudish mother and the charming, yet strange, upstairs neighbor and you get a delightful comedy! The laughs are non-stop in this Neil Simon comedy as these two complete opposites try to adjust to life as husband and wife. The trials and tribulations of the couple’s marital bliss come to a comic explosion when Paul refuses to join Corie for a barefoot walk through a snowy park. Suitable for all ages. Tickets: $20-$25 South Pacific - July 11 – August 10 WHO: Scottsdale Desert Stages Main Stage presents “South Pacific” Nominated for 11 Tony Awards in the Broadway revival, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” is on stage at Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre July 11 – August 10, 2008. There’s Nothin’ Like a Dame to get the wishful sailors stationed on a South Pacific Isle singin’ and dancin’. Set during World War II, romance blooms in paradise when a feisty Naval nurse named Nellie Forbush falls in love with a French plantation owner with a hidden past and the dashing Marine Lieutenant Joe Cable falls in love with a young native girl. But the dangers of war and prevailing prejudice are storm clouds that threaten a happy ending for these mismatched couples. Adapted from James Michener’s Pulitzer Prize-winning collection of stories, “Tales of the South Pacific,” this musical masterpiece features songs that are as lush and colorful as its tropical setting, including Some Enchanted Evening, I’m in Love With a Wonderful Guy and I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair. Thu - Sep. 4, 2008 - A Chorus Line - $69.00 per/ticket - A CHORUS LINE is a stunning musical-verite about a chorus audition for a Broadway musical. Memorable musical numbers include I Can Do That, At the Ballet, Dance: Ten; Looks: Three, The Music and the Mirror, What I Did for Love, One (Singular Sensation) and I Hope I Get It. It is a brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compellingly authentic drama. The show was instantly recognized as a classic. Rows 14-25 off to the side Thu – Jun 18, 2009 - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - $69.00 per/ticket - The most fantasmagorical stage musical in the history of everything. I wanted to share an experience I had this weekend w/all my friends in hopes it never happens to you. Please do NOT store your bottle of bleach or any type of toxic chemical on a shelf or cupboard above your dryer. Little did I know that my bleach bottle had developed a slow leak and had been dripping down on the electrical cord of my dryer and when it finally ate through the rubber and hit the live/hot wires that go into the plug, it caused a flash fire. Luckily I was home and the fire department was only minutes away. Please check where you store your cleaning items. I never even thought of something like this happening~now I know better. Go check you laundry room now and have everyone you love do the same. Thanks for listening. Ladies ~ I found this wonderful website and you can sign up to get newsletters and wonderful recipes and ideas. Just click on the link below. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Gilbert Fine Arts Association – April 9 and 11, 2008 – Still time left to enjoy the 80’s! http://www.azredhats.com/theatregilbert.html April 25, 2008 marks the Red Hat Society’s 10th birthday. Many of you who were around when the RHS was born 10 years ago, never dreamed where we were heading. It’s been a phenomenal journey and continues to show younger women everywhere what they have to look forward to. Life just begins at 50 and only gets better!!! The new friendships that have been formed have made a difference in so many women’s lives and we now, there was a need for such an organization. It shows the world we have much to give: wisdom, strength, humor, encouragement, and most of all, friendship. The world is a better place because of the RHS and its purpose. Let’s hope the next 10 years will be a phenomenal journey. Whatever your chapters chooses to do on April 25 to celebrate the Red Hat Society’s birthday, remember to enjoy yourselves and continue to show the world we are not done living and so have much to give. Happy Birthday! May 15, 2008 – Way to Go Women As one women’s club to another, The Soroptimist of the San Tans wants to invite your Red Hat Society members to the “WAY TO GO” event honoring “special women” in our community. We will also be awarding a host of other local charities and service organizations with cash grants to help them with their efforts. Come watch the smiling faces as we give donations to support My Sister’s Place domestic violence shelter, the Chandler Christian Center food bank, Neighbor’s Who Care, House of Refuge East, YMCA, Chandler Public Library, the Desert Cancer Foundation and many others. Please join us on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos San Tan Ballroom at 1 San Marcos Place in Chandler. Tickets are $35 with a portion of the proceeds going to support future women and social service groups in their efforts to make a difference in our community.
