Elks Opera House in Prescott
Elks Opera House Foundation Launches $1 Million Dollar Capital Campaign.  Over 103 years ago the citizens of Prescott stepped forward to meet a need in our community—a venue for theater. After months of planning, fund raising and construction, The Historic Elks Opera House opened its door Feb. 20, 1905.

It is time now for the community to step forward again and open their hearts to this wonderful old theater.  To survive for another century, she must find help from citizens of the Greater Prescott community.  The festivities will include a musical presentation by the Southwest Brass.  Following this, patrons can indulge in Chocolates, Sparkling Juice, Coffee, Tea, or Pastries.  Proceeds from Concessions and a portion of the ticket income will benefit restoration efforts.

After Intermission Gail Mangham will appear in Tea with ‘Zaza’, a one-woman show based on the life of Florence ‘Zaza’ Roberts, First Lady of Theater in turn of the century San Francisco .  ‘Zaza’ was the first person to appear on the stage of the opera house, performing on the evening of Feb. 20, 1905 in a Spanish play, Marta of the Lowlands .

Tea with ’Zaza’ was researched by Parker Anderson, official historian of the opera house and co- written with Gail Mangham.  The piece has it all – tears, laughter, and inspiration.  Theater audiences who saw the premier at Sharlot Hall Museum in January 2005 call this a Must See.

Zaza will return to the Elks Opera House every Sunday in July.  She will be joined by such friends such as Steve Annibale, local trumpet play, Michael Goodluck, Navaho flutist and others to be announced.

Parking at Sam’s Café

The address for Sam’s Café is 455 N. 3rd street .  It is recommend that you come off the freeway at 7th street (from either the east valley or west valley) and go south on 7th street to Fillmore.  Take a right on Fillmore and go through the light on 5th street and turn into the parking garage on the left hand side.  That way you avoid the one-ways and the construction.  Again, it is 3 hours free parking with a Sam's Cafe validation, and you can stay parked there while you go to either the Herberger or the Symphony - I believe it is $1.00 per 1/2 hour after the first 3 hours.  So even if you parked there for 5 hours, the total price would only be $4.00 for the day.

PHOENIX SYMPHONY

Ladies, I’ve been working with Phillip Douglas, Group Sales Coordinator at The Phoenix Symphony and Leslie Adams, Event Coordinator at Sam’s Café at The Arizona Center to offer a fabulous and very generous package for events happening in downtown Phoenix this coming fall and winter seasons.  Many of you love to attend musicals and shows downtown and the prices they are offering our Red Hat sisters are wonderful and the menu that Leslie has put together is fabulous as well.  Please carefully read all the details below and make sure you call the phone numbers that are highlighted in RED for reservations.  These shows will be a great idea for your chapter to attend or even to bring your best friend, hubby or neighbor to.  I’m so thrilled that we are being offered such a great deal.  I look forward to seeing you at the Symphony or the Herberger!

**NOTE:  The Bernstein concert will have a private reception for your group in the green room of Symphony Hall.  The Resident Conductor Lawrence Golan, and other orchestra members will be attending for a Question and Answer session as well as background on the music selections.  I would also mention that Jamie Bernstein might be attending if she is available.  She is Leonard Bernstein’s granddaughter and narrator of the program.  You might want to put by the ticket costs of that particular concert that $12 needs to be added for the cost of the reception.  There will be appetizers, coffee, water, and dessert at the reception, and there will be a cash bar.  I forgot to mention something about the Brahm’s Fourth Symphony that could be another option for them.  We have Meet the Artist Luncheons after all of our Coffee Classic Concerts.  These are very nice and elegant catered lunches, and are held in the convention center that is attached to Symphony Hall.  These are really neat experiences because the Guest Conductor or Artist for the day comes and speaks to the audience while their eating their lunches.
