How First Calendar Was Born

Dear Red Hat Sisters

Many of you are aware that out of friendship for my dear friend, Mary Phairas, I instigated the idea for the 2004 Timeless Treasures Calendar that incorporated 23 red hatters from 7 Arizona chapters coming together to pose for our “very-well-covered” nearly-nude calendar. Proceeds of the calendar will benefit Treasures 4 Teachers, a non-profit organization that provides “FREE” school supplies to teachers. This has been a dream for Mary for a few years and she was there for me in my time of need. Being a red-hat sister and friend, I thought the calendar would be fun and would get public attention in hopes of getting Treasures 4 Teachers off the ground. 

In 2005 we did it again and had nearly 50 AZ red hatters to pose for the beautiful and unique calendar and we had so much fun, we are doing it again! Realizing we are not about fund-raising or having causes, the fun, camaraderie, “exposure” and memories the models experienced will never be forgotten. Ask any of them and they will tell you it ranks right up there with seeing your first-born!

Putting together a calendar takes time and a lot of planning that has already begun. Carefully read all the details below and respond to this e-mail if you have questions.

  • Our next calendar will have between 25 and 35 ladies.

  • The shooting for the calendar will begin in late July and finished by mid-August.

  • You will be contacted in late July if you are selected to be a “calendar girl.”

  • You will be asked to sign a photo release form before your shoot begins.

  • If you are chosen to be in the “finals” you will be asked to meet for “personal” interviews before a Calendar Selection Committee.

How do I become a calendar girl?  Submit a photo, 8” X 10” of yourself along with a typed statement of 500 words or less why you wish to become a “calendar girl.” The photo can be any photo of you enlarged at Wal-Mart for a small fee. It does NOT have to be a professionally done photo.

What costs are involved? The only cost is the $25 registration fee. You should not have to purchase anything. Once you have been chosen and are told which month you will be in and the “theme” of the month, you can determine if you will need anything special.
Will I be paid for being a model? No, I’m afraid not. All proceeds of the calendar is given to Treasures 4 Teachers, a non-profit which will be opening soon to house “FREE” school supplies for our Arizona teachers.
When will the calendar be for sale? Our goal is to have it ready by October but it takes a lot of time organizing the shoots as well as performing lots of “touch ups” of our end product.
How much did you make from this year’s calendar? It is hard to say since we are still selling calendars. This past year we were able to pay the rent and utilities for the Treasures 4 Teachers store that gave out more than $300,000 in school supplies to several schools in the poorer areas of the state. 
What if more than one red hatter from my chapter wants to submit to become a model? Great….more the merrier! But you must remember, you all may not be selected to be a “Calendar Girl!”
When will the shooting begin and what if I’m out-of-town? The shooting will begin late July/early August. I’m afraid we cannot accommodate anyone who will not be available when our shooting begins. If you are selected, it will be your responsibility to make your travel arrangements and be at your scheduled “shoot” or your will forfeit your opportunity to be in the calendar.
