The Decadent Dames,
Arizona’s first chapter of the Red Hat Society, was born after reading an article in the July 2000 issue of my favorite magazine, Romantic Homes. On January 27, 2001, I
decided to surprise 10 of my closest and dearest friends on my birthday, and I invited them to tea and told them to wear purple and don’t ask any questions. They know how a bit crazy I am so they thought nothing of what I had planned for them. When they arrived, I presented them each with a red hat, a certificate as a charter member, and an agenda, which consisted of selecting our chapter name and voting on officers for our small
group. We hooted and laughed and had a great time.
The Decadent Dames was Arizona’s first chapter and five years later over 1200 chapters enjoy coming
together in fun and friendship. Not only do we get to play with our old, tried and true friends but also we have the opportunity to meet new and very interesting, intellectual women who enjoy the camaraderie the Sisterhood of Purple has to offer.

I hope you enjoy AZ’s website,
www.azredhats.com. On the site, you will be able to see what upcoming all state events are happening as well as photos after the fact. Be sure to check regularly for new opportunities for “Adventures in Fun” including the annual state convention.
Knowing how much the red hatters enjoy traveling, I have developed “Red Hat Travel Trips” which are listed in chronological order to many of the ladies’ favorite travel destinations. I work exclusively with Terra Travel. Just for us, they have an easy payment plan for any upcoming cruises or travel tours you wish to sign up for.
It will be a means of sharing communications. If you wish to link your chapter’s website, please contact me at
redhatqueen@cox.net.
